The Cloud is commonly used to store Word, Excel, Powerpoint, contacts, photos, calendars, books, music, apps and much more. You are able to access it from almost any of your devices and you can classify it as private, public or hybrid. There’s a lot of controversy with the cloud nowadays. At times there are news reports about the cloud, security and other topics that may cause confusion. I would like to clarify, and make sure that everyone understands, there really is no such thing as a hard drive in a cloud. Your “cloud” files sit in a data center somewhere in the world (Mostly USA), and its “replicated” over other data centers. That replication is the original cloud server’s backup. Data centers generally have high security firewalls and actual manned security as well. In my opinion, they are meant to be safe from predators and hackers. However, nothing is really 100 percent safe.

A good example of cloud computing, is when you use a system like logmein or gotomypc. You are using the web to connect from point A to point B. This is the same method used when using a system like dropbox. You login to your pc, and it downloads and uploads the files from point A to point B. Technology is great, and the cloud is great, but remember, nothing is 100% safe. For optimal data backups, I recommend my 3 legged backup scheme, Cloud, Computer to Computer, and External Hard Drive.
